Scary innit!

I came across this quote t'other day:

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in
moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification
for selfishness.

-J.K. Galbraith

More pertinent now than perhaps ever before.

Brooksy, keep us informed on Ruttley's reply (if you get one).

The NHS proposals are absolutely awful. And, as you say, no mandate at all. Why aren't the Liberals screaming about them?

As I said elsewhere, pretty soon I'll be trotting off to see my Assura Doctor.

If you want to see the heart of the present beast, those determining the ethos of this crowd, pick out Lansley at Health, Gove at Education and Pickles at Local Government. Three people out on a mission of welfare state murder.

As for the Big Society, big bloody deal. (Thatcher called her similar thing something to do with 'Victorian Values', didn't she?) I suppose I ought to go and volunteer to do the odd spot of teaching down in the non-academy schools. There'll be nobody else there, that's for sure.

Mind you, thinking this through, I suppose I could sign up as a private consultant and advise these schools on how to recruit and then manage groups of volunteers. For which, I suppose, as a member of the private rather than the public sector, I could charge the usual Goldman Sachs rates.

This is doing the rounds
The Improved National Health Service.
The British Medical Association has weighed in on the new Prime Minister David Cameron's health care proposals.

The Allergists voted to scratch it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves.

The Gastroenterologists had a sort of a gut feeling about it, but the neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve.

The Obstetricians felt they were all labouring under a misconception.

Ophthalmologists considered the idea short-sighted.

Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Paediatricians said, "Oh, Grow up!"

The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it.

Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing.

The Internists thought it was a bitter pill to swallow, and the Plastic Surgeons said, "This puts a whole new face on the matter...."

The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea.

The Anaesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and the Cardiologists didn't have the heart to say no.

In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the ar**holes in London
